Round 6 - 9th & 16th November 2013

McIntyre Cup v Woodend

The start of the 2 day games and we hosted Woodend.  We won the toss and elected to bat.  MArk McPherson was out LBW when the score was on 9. Steen Fogarty then joined Adam Smith at the crease and with some tight bowling by Woodend we creapt to 1/64 off 34 overs at tea.  After tea we lost Fogs for a well compiled 26.  Pete Jaege and Adam Billinghurst came and went while Adam Smith was looking solid at the other end.  James Hughes then cam in and made a quick fire 23.  Adam Smith went out for a really gutsy 48 (Great work).  Lance Watts made a really good 20.  In the end we were all out for 166..

James Hughes opened the bowling with Leif. The pair of them bowled in a great partnership with James claiming the 1st wicket and Leif the 2nd not long after - 2/12.  We kept taking wickets before they had a partnership and had them 4/84 at tea.  After tea we needed quick wickets.  Josh Wallace bowled the first over after tea and didn't look back.  He finished with 2/15 of 13.4 overs. Peter Jaeger bowled well and along with Jarrod Potter put the screws on. Pete finished with 0/20 and Jarrod 1/20.  James came on for his second spell and cleaned up!  He finished with 29 overs 18 maidens 5/32 - Great effort.  We bowled Woodend out for 118.  Special mention to Jarrod Potter (2 great catches) and Peter Jaeger (run out).

Good win boys!!

Man of the match: James Hughes

Digidy's Award: Adam Smith

B Grade v Macedon

Won the toss and decided to bat. With the weather being overcast and wet we should have batted a little better than we did. All out for 132 was not a great display despite the efforts of Pornos 48 and Boyesys 22 not out.

Being undermanned our bowlers had a massive job ahead but this did not eventuate. Special mention to Greg Smith- Hayes on his first wicket for the club and to 12 yr old Cooper Boyes who filled in for a run over Redda. In the end we were smashed. Better luck next time boys

Man of the match: Josh Smith

Digidy's Award: Cooper Boyes

C Grade v Ashfield

We travelled down the road to take on Ashfield.  We won the toss and elected to bat.  We had a steady start after losing Aaron Wright early with Ben G batting solidly.  We got through to drinks at 2/21.Unfortunately after drinks it was a steady loss of wickets untill we were all out for 99 wileft to play.  Ben G made 17 before being out in the 36th over.  Mat H batted well with a few cameos from the younger guys.

We bowled well before the close hfield at 4/48.  Jarrod B and Rob H taking 2 each.  Wickets were harder to come by on day 2 with Jarrod getting in early on but the only other being a run out.  Ashfield declared at tea 80 ahead.

Despite losing 8 wickets for 83, we held out the outright.  Jarrod B was the main bat this time, and once again Mat H put a lot of value on his wicket.

Man of the match: Jarrod Bottomley

Digidy's Award: Ben Graesser

F Grade v Wallan

We hosted Wallan in the 1st two day game for the season and after losing the toss we were invited to bat. We opened up with Josh Cilia and Chuckie and didn’t get off to a very good start with Josh out for 3. Coops then joined Chuckie but he was also out for 3 leaving us 2/10. Hoss then joined Chuckie at the crease in the 6th. Both of them managed to put a bit of value on their wickets and started to get the scoreboard ticking over. Chuckie was finally dismissed on the last ball before tea for a very well-made 29 and combined with Hoss for 76 run partnership. After tea we quickly lost 3/14 to leave us 6/108 undoing most of the excellent work that was done just before tea. Our next partnerships then combined to put on 46 and 41 runs respectively with the key man in both partnerships being Hoss. At the end of our 65 overs we finished up being 7/195 with Cam Attard being 9 not out and Hoss after nearly batting for 60 overs bought up his second century for the club with a magnificent 108 no

On day two it was re-iterated to the players that we couldn’t let Hoss effort the week before be wasted by not going on to win the game. We opened up with Bob and Cobbie who both bowled very tight. Cobbie finished up with 0/22 off 9 overs and was unlucky in his 1st spell not to get a wicket. Steve Denko replaced Cobbie and continued to bowl tight finishing up 1/9 off 8 overs. Chuckie and Coops each got a wicket with figures 1/20 and 1/11 respectively. But the two stand out bowlers were Bob 12 overs 3 for 14 and Josh Cilia 10 overs 3 for 23

The excellent effort with the ball was matched with our effort in the field which resulted in us getting a crucial run out and at the end of the game we bowled Wallan out for 136. A special mention need to be made to Lucas Hyatt who was able to be our 12th man on day two

Man of the match: Kevin Cartwright

Digidy's Award: Lucas Hyatt

G Grade v Lancefield

This was a 1st v 2nd clash at Royal Bulla..  We batted first and prbably didn't make enough runs. Mark "Handsome" Richardson put on 35 as an opener with Nasir Chaudhry chipping in for 15 and Jesse Wilkie 13 for a paltry total of 117 all out.

However under the inspirational leadership and one off the great cricketing brains in the game, United bowles out Lancefield for 61 with Geoff "Tenfa" Furnell taking 5/12 and Shaun Brown 3/12.

We then batted again with Richo making a solid 53 no and Jason Roberts 34 no for a total of 95 without loss.

A comfortable win played in good spirits.  Well done boys.

Man of the match: Geoff Furnell

Digidy's Award: Mark A Richardson
