B Grade v Sunbury

We came up against Sunbury in a round 1 match played in mid November due to an earlier wash-out. Smithy lost the toss for the second week running, and Sunbury asked us to have a bat. Smithy and Redda got off to a solid start, Redda out for 14, then Smithy and Drewy put on 60 for the second wicket with Smithy out for a scratchy 34. Drewy in the end was the pick of the batsman and went on to make a solid 44, with many others chipping in, including Pottsy 21 & One Sock Baskharon 19. We finished our 40 overs on 9/176, a very defendable score, although a little short of what it should have been.

We got off to an average start with the ball, giving away too many early boundaries. We had them 2/28 early, but then a partnership ensued and we were in a little trouble with Sunbury at 2/60 off 14 overs and travelling comfortably. Wally then grabbed the vital breakthrough and wickets tumbled from there. The third fell at 65, followed by wickets at 68, 68, 70, 90, 90, 94 and had them all out for 94. Jesse James was the best of the bowlers after struggling in his first few, with 2/22 off 8. Wally bowled a very tidy spell with 1/12 off 8, Boysey struggled 0/17 off 5, Lanyon was solid 1/20 off 7, Pottsy was okay 0/10 off 5, Bitters and Smithy cleaned up the last few with 2/3 and 2/2 respectively.

A solid win in a game we expected to win.

Man of the match: Drew Evans

C Grade v Woodend

Sola won the toss, we batted.  Kyte was out 2nd ball but after that there were runs galore.  Linton and Richo jnr put on 100, for the 2nd wicket.  Sola made sure we were going to make around 200, with a steady 38.  We ended up 195 all out.  Linton 72, Richo jnr 42 and Sola 38.

With 195 on the board, bowl tight we win.  Every bowler did their job,  Kumar 2 for 20, Bobby 2 for 30, Kyte 2 for 40 and Richo jnr 3 for 24.

Well done boys 1st win for the year. Well done Sola and thanks Ben Powell.

Man of the match: Chris Linton
